During a Zoom-based reunion fundraiser for Joe Biden’s presidential campaign, vice presidential candidate Kamala Harris compared Trump to Thanos.

Thanos is a supervillain from the Avengers series and is one of the most powerful villains in the Marvel Universe.

During the fundraiser, Harris said: “I often talk to my team about the Avengers, how everyone brings their own power and are appreciated for that, and all those superpowers come together to deal with Thanos.”

She continued:

I just think there is such symmetry around that at this moment. He held the fate of the universe in his hand, and right now we're looking at someone who is denying science.

It’s pretty evident that she’s talking about president Trump.

At another point in the fundraiser, Harris said: “Let's think about the Avengers in the context of this election. There is something about the values of the Avengers that reflect the core values of who we are as Americans.”

She continued: “Honour and decency matter. They matter whether you are saving the universe from Thanos or fighting for the soul of our nation.”

Harris’s husband, Douglas Emhoff, more explicitly fleshed out the comparison between Trump and Thanos.

He said: “One of the last times we saw you all together Thanos tried to snap his fingers and kill half the universe, but thanks to science we solved the problem. But the threat we face now isn't entirely different."

Emhoff continued: “A global pandemic, a climate crisis, and a president who is making it all worse.”

He added: “He is a villain fit for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, except the tweets more, and he's an active superspreader.”

Harris and Emhoff were joined on the call by Chris Evans, Paul Rudd, Scarlett Johannson and others.

They answered questions from fans and shared their voting plans.

Robert Downey Jr, who played Iron Man, joined the call as a birthday surprise for Harris.

During the call, Harris admitted that she’s a big fan of the Avengers.

She said: “First of all I'm a huge fan, so I'm like a kid right now being with all of you guys.”

Sounds like a pretty good birthday surprise!
