It came to light that acting attorney general Sally Yates warned the White House in January – an entire month before the news broke – that she believed Flynn’s communications with the Russian ambassador had rendered him potentially vulnerable to blackmail.
Amidst the confusion, Kellyanne Conway, Counsellor to the President attempted to clarify the situation on the Today Show with Matt Lauer.
That was a mistake.
Conway said Flynn had the full confidence of the President, but had decided to resign.
'Hang on', said Lauer, so “had he not resigned” the President would have continued to let him be security adviser even though he misled him on the contents of the call with the Russian ambassador?
Misleading the Vice President really was the key here.
But.. The White House was briefed a month before about Flynn’s potential compromise vis-à-vis the Russian ambassador?
Conway called that "one characterisation" of events, to which Lauer told her she wasn't making any sense.
