A top male tennis player gave the best response to an interviewer who asked him about his female coach.
Lucas Pouille, who won his first Grand Slam semi-final against Milos Raonic, was being interviewed by journalist John McEnroe about the champion’s decision to hire former world number one tennis champ Amelie Mauresmo - because the obvious reason that she is a world champion seemingly wasn’t enough.
McEnroe said: “I’m getting the feeling that a lot of these guy players are going to be hiring female coaches.”
What exactly is that supposed to mean?
24-year-old Pouille took the bizarre suggestion in his stride though, and said “they should” hire female coaches.
Speaking of Mauresmo, he added:
She has the right mind-set, she knows everything about tennis. It’s not about being a woman or a man… it doesn’t matter, you just have to know what you’re doing and she does.
His words were met with deafening applause and people praised him for his no-nonsense response
Others wondered why Mauresmo's gender was even brought up.
