Man asks catcaller to leave girlfriend alone, is stabbed nine times

A man who asked someone to stop catcalling his girlfriend was subsequently stabbed nine times and narrowly escaped with his life.

Ben Schwartz, 31, was walking home in San Francisco with his girlfriend Miyoko Moody in the early hours of last Saturday when she was catcalled for the third time that night, according to the San Francisco Chronicle.

He asked the man “can you please stop?” but the catcaller responded by stabbing him in the back, face, neck and arms, puncturing Mr Schwartz’s lung and just missing his spinal cord.

Mr Schwartz, who has been released from hospital with 60 stitches on his arms alone, was featured in local media earlier this year when he returned a stolen bike to its rightful owner.

The man who stabbed him has not been identified and remains at large.

The one happy note from the story is that a GoFundMe page set up by the couple’s friends to help with medical bills has raised more than $17,000 (£10,900).

“We are still working on getting back to all of you personally! We are touched by the support we've gotten both locally and internationally (some as far as Germany, Spain, and China) we never thought this story would become what it has and we are forever grateful,” a note on the page reads.
