A coven of witches in Brooklyn, New York, are planning to put a hex on Brett Kavanaugh and, unsurprisingly, the event has completely sold out.
The event is set to take place at Catland Book Store, Bushwick, on Saturday 20 October, and will cost $10 per ticket. The Facebook event is equally as popular, with 1.4K people clicking 'attend' and another 13K saying they're 'interested'.
On the event's eventbrite page, the organisers promise to curse the newly sworn-in chief justice along with 'all rapists' and 'the patriarchy which emboldens, rewards, and protects them'. It then adds that Kavanaugh:
will be the focal point, but by no means the only target, so bring your rage and and all of the axes you've got to grind.
The hexing is far from an unusual event for Catland Books, which describes itself as 'Brooklyn's premier metaphysical boutique and event space'. Previous events have included a ceremony to hex Donald Trump, as well as regular 'yoga for witches' sessions, and a 'hex your ex' ceremony on Valentine's Day.
The ritual has been organised by a co-owner of the store, Dakota Bracciale, who described the event as an important act of protest and community outreach. Speaking to The Guardian, she said:
The whole thing is going to be really cathartic, whether you believe it or not.
The right has churches but the left is scattershot.
The left is where you’re going to find atheists, secularists, humanists, people who follow non-traditional religions.
So how are you going to get all of us together in times of trouble? That’s what we’ve been doing.
However, some conservatives are unimpressed with the idea. Speaking on NBC, the co-founder of Women Vote Trump, Amy Kremer, commented:
It is a scary time right now. Sarah Sanders has been run out of restaurants. I mean, there’s a list of things going on. Now you’ve got witches that are placing a hex on Brett Kavanaugh.
Other Christian fundamentalists voiced their concerns on the Facebook page of the event.
One wrote:
The ritual to hex Brett Kavanaugh will NOT work. God is in control and the elite will fail with their agenda.
While another echoed these sentiments:
I pray God will have mercy on your souls. I plead the blood of Jesus over Judge Kavenaugh [sic], our President and all Christians, in The name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
However, Bracciale is unconcerned. Speaking to the Guardian, she said:
If you’re going to be these awful bullies, you have to understand someone is going to punch you back and it might as well be a bunch of witches from Brooklyn.
