Meghan Markle is ‘absolutely mortified’ at best friend’s threats towards black influencer, reports say

Meghan Markle is distancing herself from her friend Jessica Mulroney after she made “tone-deaf” remarks towards a black social media influencer, reports say.

According to a report by theDaily Mail, Markle is “absolutely mortified” about the whole affair. She believes her friend is “in no way a racist” but that the way she handled the situation was “tone deaf and heartbreaking”. The report also claims that Meghan feels she can no longer be associated with Mulroney following backlash against her comments.

On Wednesday, black influencer Sasha Exeter slammed the 40-year-old stylist in a lengthy Instagram video, claiming Mulroney “took offence” when she encouraged her followers to speak up about the Black Lives Matter movement, “wrongly assumed” the prompt was directed at her specifically, and exhibited “very problematic behaviour” that culminated in a written threat to sue the lifestyle blogger.

She said:

For her to threaten me ― a single mom, a single black mom — during a racial pandemic blows my mind.

Listen, I am by no means calling Jess a racist but what I will say is this: She is very well aware of her wealth, her perceived power and privilege because of the colour of her skin

And that, my friends, gave her the momentary confidence to come for my livelihood in writing. Textbook white privilege, really, in my personal opinion.

Mulroney apologised for her conduct, but her TV wedding series,I Do Redo was then dropped by Canadian network CTV. She was also let go as fashion contributor for ABC’s Good Morning America.

Markle has yet to comment publicly on the controversy.
