The recent attention on Meghan Markle has got us reflecting about some of her greatest moments and this one immediately sprang to mind.
Back in March 2020, Aker Okoye, head boy at Robert Clack School in Essex, was introduced by the Duchess of Sussex as she made a visit ahead of International Women's Day.
Before I continue, I’m going to go off the cuff here, because I do think what’s really key, if there is one brave man in this room who wants to come and say what he thinks the importance of International Women’s Day is. I know there’s going to be one of you.
He proceeded to make his way onto the stage to a rapturous reception. Then, with the timing of a comedy great, he allowed the applause to die down before saying:
She really is beautiful, innit.
The crowd, naturally, lapped it up and Meghan seemed as amused as anyone. In a handwritten note to Harry and Meghan, Aker wrote:
“Harry, hope you don’t mind me writing this letter. I hope you didn’t mind me cuddling your wife. I was just overwhelmed and shocked to see her arrive at my school. It was a pleasure to hear her speech and to speak in front of her as well. She is truly inspirational.”
Obviously it's perhaps a bit of a stretch to ask Meghan's husband if he minded him "cuddling" his wife.
But regardless, the young man's charisma and clear admiration for the famous couple shines through and this was clearly a positive interaction for all involved.
Appearing on Good Morning Britain to discuss the viral moment, Aker also said that his mum was his "hero" (aww!)
The pause, the look, the delivery - this lad absolutely nails it. 😂 https://t.co/5n7ryuP9Ju— Jay Motty (@Jay Motty) 1583671527
