Mother reunited with her daughter - 49 years after being told she had died

Forty-nine years ago, Zella Jackson Price was told her infant daughter had died hours after being born.

But her baby was very much alive and was adopted by another family, Fox 2 reports.

Fast forward half a century and Ms Price was reunited with her long-lost daughter, Melanie Diane Gilmore, in Missouri on Thursday. She also met her daughter’s children, her biological grandchildren.

“There’s nothing greater. There’s nothing greater than this. Nothing,” Ms Price told Fox 2. “(God) has given me everything the devil has taken from me. I’m getting it back. I’m getting my baby back.”

Ms Gilmore had told her two children about her desire to meet her birth mother and they used the internet to track down Ms Price. DNA testing confirmed that the two are mother and daughter and the pair now plan to investigate why Ms Price was told her daughter had died.
