In a staggering election night which has confounded the expectations of the media and upended political discourse, Donald Trump is currently expected to become the next president of the United States.
A man who has a history littered with repugnant bigotry, who can be triggered with a tweet, will likely take a seat in the Oval Office in the new year. Many Americans are apparently taking this as significant cause for alarm.
Canada's website for immigration briefly crashed earlier this morning.

The landing page for English language visitors is meant to greet visitors like this:

However, many weren't able to get through to the site due to high traffic in the early hours.
Â
Google Trends can confirm the high search traffic peaked around the time the result began to swing in Trump's favour.
Â
This may also have been fuelled by articles joking about the prospect of a Trump presidency, which detailed a list of jobs that are looked upon favourably by Canadian immigration.
If you're wondering what they are, they are as follows:
- Accountants
- Architects
- Computer Systems Analysts
- Disaster Relief Insurance Claims Adjusters
- Economists
- Engineers
- Foresters
- Graphic Designers
- Hotel Managers
- Industrial Designers
- Interior Designers
- Land Surveyors
- Landscape Architects
- Lawyers
- Librarians
- Management Consultants
- Mathematicians and Statisticians
- Range Managers and Range Conservationalists
- Research Assistants
- Scientific Technicians and Technologists
- Social Workers
- Sylviculturists
- Technical Publications Writers
- Urban Planners
- Vocational Counsellors
And the link is here (if it's still working).
Welcome to the Brave New World.
