At least eight people have been killed and 11 seriously hurt after a truck was driven into a cycle path in Lower Manhattan in what authorities say was a terror attack.
But New Yorkers continue to live out their every day lives, refusing to give up on solidarity, joy and love.
As the New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said:

Around a mile from where the truck ran into pedestrians and cyclists, the 44th annual Village Halloween Parade continued as planned - complete with goblins, ghosts and ghouls.
Thousands of spectators attended.
