Police release 'penis map' in hunt for knife suspect

Police release 'penis map' in hunt for knife suspect

After a man was stabbed in a Bristol suburb last Friday afternoon, police released an appeal for witnesses.

Despite the seriousness of the plea, most people only took notice of it because of the rather curious nature of the shaded map Avon and Somerset Police had attached...

As the Bristol Post reported:

The serious and dangerous nature of the incident was somewhat diminished by the use of a map marking out the shape of male genitalia to represent the crime area.

Following the uproar on social media, a police spokesperson released this firmly worded statement:

This is a serious appeal for information after a man was left in need of hospital treatment following a violent assault.

Whatever the map may have resembled should not distract from the severity of the crime and our request for help from the public.

Police then released a far less phallic map:

And eventually...

A 27-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the incident and have been released on bail pending further enquiries.

Not a total cock-up then.
