Russia: Actor lashes out at woman in TV audience who insulted her son with Down's syndrome

Russian actor Evelina Bledans slapped a woman live on television after she insulted her son, who has Down's syndrome.

The 49-year-old star appeared on the show Live to discuss having a child in later life. She is due to have her third child, which was conceived via IVF.

She explains that she dreams of having a daughter, but at one point during the show, she was criticised by an audience member who branded her irresponsible for risking the child's health by getting pregnant at such an age.

The woman, who has been identified as Elena Lebedeva, also went on to criticise Bledans's son, Semyon, who she called "another sick child".

She is quoted as saying:

It is dangerous to give birth between the ages of 35 and 40 so what about 49? What were you thinking?

Do you want to give birth to another sick child?

Will you give birth to another child with Down’s syndrome? Nobody needs such a child, not society and not you.

At one point during her rant, fellow Russian actor Vladimir Dolinsky stands up and tells her to leave for saying such comments.

"For such things... She should leave the studio," he shouts.

As she continues her speech, Bledans leaves the stage and approaches her and begins to argue back while hitting the woman.

You wretch, I will smack you! This is for my child, understand?

You can say anything about me, but leave my children alone!

Seymon is Bledan's youngest son, who she had with director Alexander Semin and was born in 2012. Her oldest child, Nikolay, is 24 and currently lives in Israel.
