Serena Williams goes topless and sings 'I Touch Myself' to raise awareness for breast cancer

Serena Williams has decided to use her body in a campaign to for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The world-class tennis player went topless and sang a cover of Divinyls’ song I Touch Myself.

Williams uploaded the clip on Instagram, where she accompanied it with a caption:

This Breast Cancer Awareness Month I’ve recorded a version of The Divinyls global hit “I Touch Myself” to remind women to self-check regularly.

Yes, this put me out of my comfort zone, but I wanted to do it because it’s an issue that affects all women of all colors [sic], all around the world. Early detection is key - it saves so many lives. I just hope this helps to remind women of that.

She added that she wants women to ‘self-check regularly.’

The video is part of the I Touch Myself Project, to honour Divinyls’ lead singer Chrissy Amphlett, who died of breast cancer in 2013.

Thousands of people praised Williams for her voice, as well as her support of those with breast cancer. One person, who had suffered from breast cancer in the past, commented on the video:

Another added:

According to the World Health Organisation, in 2018, it is estimated that 627,000 women died from breast cancer – that is approximately 15 per cent of all cancer deaths among women.
