Sweden is making 'fair trade' porn

Swedish health minister Gabriel Wikström has announced plans to make pornography more like 'fair trade'.

The Swedish government has initiated the first sex survey in two decades, and there are hopes it will lead to a greater understanding of how porn influences sex.

Wikström hopes a cultural change, where consumers assess pornography like they might other products (favouring 'fair trade') might be brought about.

He acknowledges that the government should not have a part in regulating the industry, or that pornography should have fair trade labelling.

By 'fair trade' Wikström explained he referred to pornography that emphasised consent.

In an interview with Nyheter 24, the minister explained what he meant by fair trade.

I think one should try to take a fairtrade perspective on it, for example, in which way has it been produced, and is there consent? Then you can move forward in minimizing porn that is misogynistic and produced under bad conditions. It’s good that this question is being talked about and it comes to light.

Wikström has previously expressed his liberal attitude towards sex. When one man tried to complain to the minister about the loud sex his neighbours were having. Wikström responded:

Sounds nice for them, I think. Good for their wellbeing and thus public health as well.

His comments were in response to a 2013 poll conducted by a newspaper that suggested Swedes were having sex less often compared to 1996.
