Ted Cruz is trying to fundraise by signing copies of a Dr Seuss book

Senator Ted Cruz has attempted to ride the culture war wave by purchasing and signing copies of Dr Seuss’ classic children’s books.

The Texan politician is trying to raise money by asking his supporters to pay $60 for a signed copy of Green Eggs and Ham. They are currently going for less than five dollars on Amazon.

The donation page reads, “Stand with Ted & Dr Seuss against cancel culture mob to claim your signed copy of Green Eggs and Ham!”

“Right now, the far left is trying to ‘CANCEL’ Dr Seuss,” Cruz claimed in a Facebook ad.

In an email, he stated he intended to sign “another 175 copies” after “the response to this has been HUGE”.

The first claim, of the “left” trying to “cancel” Dr Seuss is incorrect as the decision to stop printing six of the author’s books came after an internal review within the estate. The decision was made on their own and no one had asked them to do so.

Green Eggs and Ham is not one of the books that the Dr Seuss estate wants to take out of their printed books. Some of the books are being taken out of circulation because of their racial stereotyping and racist characterisations.

Green Eggs and Ham is apparently a long time favourite of the Senator – who recently came under fire for attempting to run away to Mexico on holiday while Texas faced deathly blizzards that left millions without power – as he read it out to filibuster Obamacare in 2013.

There are a number of things Republicans are convinced the left desperate to cancel, including Mr Potatohead.
