An image comparing the notoriously green Olympic diving pool in Rio with the supposedly abandoned swimming pool from Athens 2004 has been widely shared in recent days.

The image posted to reddit, seems to be slightly misleading...

Although the diving pool at Rio indeed has turned green this week...

...the Athens swimming pool from the 2004 Games is still in usable condition - and blue.

The pool is still available for public use Monday to Friday, and played host to the Special Olympics in 2011.

Here is a photo of the pool in 2012...

...while reddit users have posted images of the pool in good shape, claiming to be from as recent as December 2014.

What is less good condition is the Athens Olympic village pool...

In short, don't trust internet memes.
