This is what 10 tonnes of exploding fireworks look like

The bomb squad from the Midland Police Department in Texas destroyed 20,000lbs (10t) of seized fireworks this week creating a pyrotechnic display lasting nearly a minute.

A court order from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives meant the fireworks could not be donated to a better cause.

Posting the video on its Facebook page, the police department also explained that sadly the explosion could not take place at night because "it was not meant to be a fireworks show".
