Trump to hold news conference on 6 January – what could possibly go wrong?

In the latest sign that former president Donald Trump lacks self-awareness, the Republican has decided to hold a news conference exactly one year on from the day his supporters attacked the US Capitol building.

statement issued by the ex-Potus says the news conference will be held at Mr Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida on 6 January.

It reads: “Why isn’t the unselect committee of highly partisan political hacks investigating the CAUSE of the January 6th protest, which was the rigged presidential election of 2020? Does anybody notice that they want to stay as far away from that topic as possible, the numbers don’t work for them, or even come close.

“The only thing they can do is not talk about it.”

After criticising individuals he considered to be “Republican Rinos” – which stands for Republican in Name Only – Mr Trump added: “I will be having a news conference on January 6th at Mar-a-Lago to discuss all of these points, and more.

“Until then, remember the insurrection took place on November 3rd, it was the completely unarmed protest of the rigged election that took place on January 6th.”

Once again, we have to dispel Mr Trump’s nonsense and issue the reminder that claims of “electoral fraud” or a “rigged election” are unsubstantiated and have been disproven.

The relevance of the politician scheduling the event on the anniversary of the riot has not been lost on people, with several calling on the mainstream media to ignore next month’s conference entirely:

We just hope that history won’t repeat itself on that day, when Mr Trump once again spouts his usual nonsense.
