Trump releases disrespectful ‘tribute’ to Colin Powell that moans about media coverage of his death

Donald Trump has lashed out at the late Colin Powell – whose death was announced just 24 hours ago.

The former president wrote a disrespectful statement towards the 84-year-old, who died from Covid complications. The ‘tribute’ was filled with shade, before signing off with “but anyway, may he rest in peace!”

Trump sarcastically commented on how Powell’s death was treated “so beautifully” by the “fake” media, before mocking the late politician as a “RINO” (Republican In Name Only).

He said: “Wonderful to see Colin Powell, who made big mistakes on Iraq and famously, so-called weapons of mass destruction, be treated in death so beautifully by the Fake News Media.”

“Hope that happens to me someday,” Trump added.

“He was a classic RINO, if even that, always being the first to attack other Republicans. He made plenty of mistakes, but anyway, may he rest in peace!”

Social media users were disgusted (but not surprised) by the former president’s “classless” statement and took to Twitter to express their outrage.

One user tweeted: “Whenever Donald Trump knows he can’t live up to some other persons life he tried to bring them down to his level with insults. That’s all this is. The ramblings of a weak insecure man. He couldn’t walk two steps in Colin Powell’s shoes.”

“Keeping it classy as always,” another added. “You got to appreciate how consistent Trump is...always making it about himself. Toxic narcissism.”

Colin Powell’s family took to Facebook on Monday to announce his death.

“General Colin L. Powell, former US Secretary of State and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, passed away this morning due to complications from Covid-19,” they said.

“We have lost a remarkable and loving husband, father, grandfather, and a great American.”
