Trump says that he can't see himself owning a dog because it would 'feel a little phony'

Donald Trump's rally in El Paso has already attracted a lot of headlines for what was said at the event but no one would have thought that dogs would be on the agenda.

Out of the 45 men who have held the position of the President of the United States of America, 30 of them have owned dogs.

Some of the most well known include Obama's dog, Bo, the Roosevelt's Skip, Ronald and Nancy Reagan's Rex and the Clinton's Buddy.

In fact the last president before Trump to have no reported pets whatsoever was James K. Polk, who served as POTUS between 1845 and 1849.

So, why is Trump so opposed to having a dog or any pet. Well, according to him, he just doesn't have the time and fears he would look 'phony.'

Addressing the crowds in Texas, Trump admitted that he likes German shepherds for their ability to sniff out illegal drugs but that would be the extent of his animal caring.

You do love your dogs don't you? I wouldn't mind having one, honestly but I don't have any time, honestly.

How would I look walking a dog on the White House lawn? I don't know. It doesn't feel good. Feels a little phony to me.

A lot of people say to me. 'Oh you should get a dog.' I say 'why?'

'It's good politically.' I say 'look, that's not the relationship I have with my people...Obama had a dog.

Any excuse to have a pop at Obama...

This unusual segway by the president was a little odd and the good folks on Twitter weren't quite sure as to whether Trump was for or against dog ownership.

Will someone please think of the dogs!

Let's not forget about that time someone found an image of Trump in their dog's ear.

Just for the record here is photo evidence of Trump with a dog.
