Tucker Carlson accused of ‘hating the United States’ by retired army official

Controversial Fox News host Tucker Carlson is “hating the United States”, according to retired US lieutenant colonel Alexander Vindman.

The army official’s comments come a month after Carlson described Harry Dunn, a US Capitol police officer who defended the building from rioters during the 6 January insurrection, as an “angry, left-wing political activist”.

“Dunn will pretend to speak for the country’s law enforcement community, but it turns out Dunn has very little in common with your average cop.

“Dunn is an angry, left-wing political activist,” said Carlson, during an episode of his programmeTucker Carlson Tonight. His remarks were later criticised by Dunn’s attorneys.

Now, during a segment on the riots, Vindman told CNN that it’s “interesting to hear” Carlson “demonise and hate the United States”.

Turning to the camera, he added: “I would just ask the American public to take a look around. Walk your streets. Does it look anything like the world that Tucker Carlson portrays, or Donald Trump portrays?

“Yes, I get the fact that Newsmax and Fox News are declaring this country as falling apart, but walk the streets. It’s not like that.

“We have problems, we have challenges we can overcome together, but we are still the best country in the world, and we’ll do that together,” he said.

Several Twitter users have agreed with Vindman:

Others, meanwhile, cast doubt on Vindman’s claim that the US is “the best country in the world”:

Carlson, who interviewed Viktor Orbán – Hungary’s anti-LGBT prime minister - earlier this week, has not yet responded to Vindman’s comments.
