Student in blackface says the n-word in viral video and people are angry

The University of Oklahoma says it’s investigating a viral Snapchat video depicting a white student in black face using the N-word.

The video, reposted to Twitter by another student, reveals two white females laughing as they smear black paint on their face and one says: “You’ve got too much. That’s not a face mask.”

The other girl responds by looking straight into the camera to say:

I am a n*****

But while some people expressed outrage at the video, a large number of students unfortunatley didn't seem very surprised.

This reaction is probably because the incident is not the first of it's kind at the university. A few years ago, a fraternity on campus was recorded singing a racist song on a bus, leading to two expulsions and a shut down of the chapter.

In a written statement, the university condemend the latest video, writing:

We have been made aware of an inappropriate and derogatory video circulating on social media posted by an OU student.

The University Of Oklahoma abhors such conduct and condemns the students’ actions and behavior in the strongest terms possible.

The president of the university, James Gallogly, later issued a statement that said the students had “offered to apologise in order to reflect their regret,” but did not mention any potential disciplinary action.
