What happened when an Ebola patient escaped hospital in Liberia

This video sums up the terror felt by residents and the difficulties faced by authorities over the world's worst-ever Ebola outbreak.

Filmed on Monday in Monrovia, it shows a patient who escaped from hospital walking through a market in the Liberian capital, lashing out at anyone who tries to confront him.

The tag affixed to his arm shows he has tested positive for the disease, which has killed almost 700 people in Liberia, and more than 1,500 overall.

Health workers eventually managed to force him into the back of an ambulance.

Witnesses who initially fled from the man said he came to the market in search of food.
