Why women have a problem with Alex Salmond, in four charts

The majority of Scottish women believe Alex Salmond is a bad leader and will make them more likely to vote against independence, according to new Survation poll.

The data, collected for Scottish newspaper the Daily Record, shows that the word most females picked to describe Mr Salmond was "arrogant". Just 1.2 per cent said he was attractive. This weekend Survation found 41 per cent of Scottish men would say yes to independence - compared to 33 per cent of women in their new poll.

Survation chief executive Damian Lyons Lowe sad the 'Yes' campaign had "an uphill struggle to win over the support of women, who – as our poll shows –remain much more sceptical than men over the independence question".

Survation polled 1,000 women aged 16+ between 8-12 August via an online panel.
