US president Donald Trump has become well-known for his inflammatory remarks about people – be it his political opponents; female journalists; critics who have passed away; and members of his own administration such as his press secretary, Karoline Leavitt.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Tuesday about his own publicity, the Republican said: “People don’t believe the media and, to finish, I’m at 93 per cent bad publicity. Some people say 97, but between 93 and 97.

“Maybe Karoline’s doing a poor job, I don’t know.”

After looking at Leavitt and telling her she’s “doing a terrible job”, he continued: “Shall we keep her? I think we’ll keep her.

“When you get 93 to 97 bad stories, bad press, and you win in a landslide, do you know what that says? People don’t believe the press, and when people don’t believe the press, that’s a very bad thing for our country.”

Trump’s remarks have since shocked social media users, with broadcaster Jim Acosta responding with a grimacing face emoji:

Majid Padellan, known online as Brooklyn Dad Defiant, challenged Trump’s claim that he won “in a landslide”:

Jo Carducci, also known as JoJoFromJerz, said “grangrene is more popular than [Trump] is at this point”:

While another X/Twitter account said that for Trump, it is “always someone else”:

And it was only last week when Trump appeared to insult acquaintances by explaining why he likes to “hang out with losers”.

Yes, really.
