Show this Facebook post to anyone who keeps sharing those annoying hoaxes

In recent days, another post which promises people millions of dollars has been spreading like wildfire on Facebook.

And like almost everything on the internet: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

The message goes something likes this:

Mark Zuckerberg has announced that he is giving away $45 billion of Facebook stock.

What you may not have heard is that he plans to give 10% of it away to people like YOU and ME! All you have to do is copy and paste this message into a post IMMEDIATELY and tag 5-10 of your friends.

At midnight PST, Facebook will search through the day’s posts and award 1000 people with $4.5 million EACH as a way of saying thank you for making Facebook such a powerful vehicle for connection and philanthropy.

While the Facebook founder did recently announce that he'd be giving a lot of his wealth away, this latest post has been widely debunked. Yet, infuriatingly, people are still sharing it.

In response to the phenomenon, which seems to re-emerge in a slightly different format every few months, Facebook user Joe Coletta has come up with this alternative which gently mocks anyone gullible enough to share the original:

His post, featuring the promise of a free unicorn and the re-assuring words "Truth... I saw it on Good Morning America" has been shared more than 30,000 times.

We hope that's because people are in on the joke and not because they really think Mark Zuckerberg is going to give them a unicorn...
