At long last, the eye-offending vertical video is about to become a thing of the past on YouTube - on the mobile version at least.
The Google-owned video site has announced a new "streamlined" design for its app that will allow mobile users to watch videos in vertical mode - which will mean the end of a small video flanked by big black rectangles.
With more than half of YouTube's web traffic coming from mobile, the company is keen to improve the usability of the site in that area.
The new feature is available immediately for Android users and will be made available on Apple devices soon, according to CNN Money.
