This phone automatically airbrushes your photos and people are getting offended

The Samsung Galaxy phone’s camera comes with an airbrushing filter and not everyone is a fan.

Sure, filters can be fun and at times pretty flattering, but it doesn’t send out a great message when a camera comes with a 'Beauty Face' filter, which some people have reported is the default setting.

Author and blogger Mel Wells was one of the first to point this out in an Instagram post. She shared two side by side photos of herself with and without the filter to show just how different she looked.

She also made an important point:

This means everyone who gets a new Samsung phone and flicks the front camera on is automatically being told 'Hi, we're Samsung and we think you look way better when we automatically airbrush your selfies for you, x 8!!'

Sam later added:

Thanks @samsungmobile for the vote of confidence, I think I'll keep my freckles and imperfections since this is how I look in 3D and this is how all my friends see me in real life. I hope young girls are buying iPhones instead of Samsungs. (Wait, do iPhones do this too?) To clarify - no apps here - this is Samsung's DEFAULT FRONT CAMERA SETTING.

A rep for Samsung told the Huffington Post that the 'Beauty Mode' filter's default setting is level two, not level eight as Mel suggested.

They explained:

At Samsung we offer a range of camera settings on our mobile phones for our customers to be able to choose to switch on or use. The beauty setting is one such setting that we know our customers love and has the option of being switched on or turned off completely, depending on personal preference.

Plenty of other people were none too pleased about the filter either though.

Others also said they were a bit offended about Samsung automatically removing their freckles.
