“You are the weakest link, goodbye.”
Quiz show host Anne Robinson was known for her catchphrase as well as her brutal put-downs of participants.
After she was announced as the new host of game show Countdown, a resurfaced clip of Robinson’s cruel questioning of a contestant names Ann on The Weakest Link sparked outrage on social media.
The video, which already has one million views on Twitter, shows the host asking a contestant how many ASBOs her children had, whether she was receiving benefits and what happened to her husband.
The old clip starts with Robinson asking the contestant on the quiz show what they do, to which Ann replied she was a full-time single mum to three boys.
Robinson’s next question was: “So how many ASBOs?”
The Weakest Link contestant asked for clarification on what she meant.
Robinson then said: “How many of your three boys have got tags on their ankles?”
“Well none so far,” Ann joked.
Robinson continued: “You doing benefits are you?
“I knew, I was waiting for this,” Ann replied. “I’m doing a 24/7 job really.”
In response, the host, while appearing to smirk, asked again: “Are you on benefits?”
Robinson went on to also say: “What happened to the husband?” and “You didn’t go gay did you?”
Social media users reacted to the clip with horror.
