Actor Elliot Page has received widespread acclaim online after it was revealed that he is the first openly trans man to appear on the cover of TIME magazine.
The performer, known for their appearances in Juno, X-Men and The Umbrella Academy came out as transgender in December, with a statement which was met with an outpouring of support online.
Page wrote: “I feel lucky to be writing this. To be here. To have arrived at this place in my life.
“I love that I am trans. And I love that I am queer. And the more I hold myself close and fully embrace who I am, the more I dream, the more my heart grows and the more I thrive.”
The news was announced on Tuesday as the magazine published its interview with Page, who said of his announcement last year that he was anticipating “a lot of support and love and a massive amount of hatred and transphobia”.
“That’s essentially what happened,” they said.
