Marvel's Avengers video game releases first trailer and fans are tearing it apart

The first look at the upcoming Avengers video game has been released and Marvel fans are not impressed.

The game, titled Marvel’s Avengers, is based around an original story with new character designs that stray from the likeness of the film series’ actors.

It’s still unclear how gameplay works in it, but the first trailer gives us a pretty good idea of what the game will look like.

And despite some positive reactions on social media, many fans reacted angrily to the visuals - with the designs of the lead characters receiving strong criticism.

Individual details were especially divisive, such as the absence of Hawkeye…

And the design of Black Widow.

Some fans argued that the huge success of the film series has meant character designs in any Avengers game were going to be compared negatively to the real-life actors.

And others noted that the series doesn’t lend itself easily to a video game format, as it has so many characters who suit different styles of gameplay.

In the end, it could have been much worse.

At least the characters don't look like this...

Marvel’s Avengers is set to be released on 15 May 2020.
