Someone finally worked out how much money Joey owes Chandler

It's one of the longest-running mysteries in the series, but one Friends enthusiast believes they have worked out exactly how much money Joey owed Chandler after all those years of financial support.

One Redditor - who was presumably left frustrated at the lack of answers in Season 8's "The One Where Rachel is Late", where the two Friends try to work it out themselves - took to the TheyDidTheMath sub to see if anyone could help him out.

In season 8 episode 22 of Friends, Joey is figuring out how much money he owes Chandler for rent, acting lessons, dance lessons, head shots, etc. After seeing the final number, Joey forgives Chandler for falling asleep during his movie and calls it even. How much did Joey owe Chandler?

Within the space of a day, another Reddit user called ASmileThatKills 'did the math' by tallying up all the numerous things that Chandler paid for and working out a rough cost based on today's prices. By using a currency depreciation calculator, that price was then amended to the prices of the 1990s.

With Chandler paying Joey's rent for three years in an expensive part of New York (approx. $67,000), utilities ($1,500), cable television ($1,260) lots and lots of food and all those coffees at Central Perk ($39,000) the initial total comes to $108,760.

Once furniture replacements have been added in (after it was all stolen from their apartment) that would be another $5,500. Leaving us with a grand total of:

$114,260 (£74,000)

Chandler basically funded the living expenses of a full grown man for 3 years in one of the most expensive parts of Manhattan, so it was pretty costly to him.
