Love Island’s Zara McDermott praised for ‘brave’ documentary about revenge porn

Former Love Island contestant Zara McDermott has been praised as “brave” after opening about being a victim of revenge porn.

Speaking on a new BBC Three documentary named Zara McDermott: Revenge Porn, the influencer said she “wanted to die” after intimate photos were shared without her consent.

The images circulated online while she appeared on the reality dating show in 2018, aged 21. She said had previously been a victim of revenge porn when she was 14.

“The night I left the villa, I was obviously feeling super emotional,” McDermott said.

“Woke up the following morning, knock at the door and it was the press officer [saying], ‘Someone has shared some images of you and they’ve been circulating pretty much worldwide since you’ve been in the villa.’”

“I can’t even tell you that feeling, of [feeling] like your parents are ashamed of you… How were they ever going to look at me the same ever again? Am I ever going to be able to heal this relationship?

 “It was so embarrassing and I just wanted to die.”
