Conor McGregor’s mocked for spending $1m on ‘the most hideous watch ever’

UFC fighter Conor McGregor is possibly one of the most divisive figures in sport, but there appears to be one thing that everyone agrees on; he has a terrible taste in watches.

The 32-year-old Irish star who is due to fight Dustin Poirier in Abu Dhabi on 23rd January has been showing off some of his recent lavish purchases one of which includes a new watch which reportedly cost $1,000,000 (£735,000).

According to The Sun, McGregor’s new timepiece 'Jacob & Co's Astronomia Tourbillon Baguette’ which features and we quote “342 invisibly set, baguette-cut diamonds' on the backdrop and a further '80 invisibly set, baguette-cut diamonds' on the lugs. The base dials boasts a further 133 triangle-cut white diamonds, totalling 16.8 carats by itself.” Answers on a postcard if any of that made any sense to you.

Now, we’re not exactly experts on what a one million dollar watch should look like but McGregor might have been better keeping his money in his pocket as the response to the expensive item hasn’t gone down too well on social media.

Firstly, not only does it look rather garish, at a glance, it would appear pretty hard to tell exactly what the time is. Needless to say the watch has been compared to something you’d see on a Christmas Tree or at a seaside amusement park i.e. quite cheap.

Maybe he should have spent the money on a watch that could actually perform its primary function.

Maybe there was one silver lining to this.

Amazingly this wasn’t the only watch that McGregor spent one million dollars on. Another watch, which reportedly cost the fighter £1.5 million is apparently called ‘The Rasputin’ and features a hidden x-rated picture.

Yikes.
