Donald Trump suggests LeBron James could get a sex change to compete in women’s sport

We’re used to Donald Trump making some questionable statements, but his latest musings are eyebrow-raising even by his standards.

During a two-hour speech in Phoenix, Arizona, on Saturday night, the former US president spoke about how basketball player LeBron James could get sex reassignment surgery in order to play on women’s sports teams.

As first reported by Business Insider, Trump told supporters at the ‘Rally to Protect Our Elections’ that, if he were the coach of a female sports team, he would only recruit trangender athletes.

He then suggested that the Los Angeles Lakers star could "get the operation".

The MAGA commander in chief told the throng: "We all like to win. If I were a coach, I tell you, I wouldn’t be talking to too many women as we know women. I’d be getting some of these people that ... they’re women," he rambled.

He went on: "Somebody said that if LeBron James ever decided to get the operation, how would he be on the court?”

James identifies as male and has never publicly expressed any wish to undergo gender reassignment surgery.

Trump continued by mocking the sportsman, saying:"LeBron James, you can have him. Did you see the basketball ratings that were terrible? They went up after his team was defeated."

It isn’t the first time the ex-leader has taken aim at the 16-time NBA All Star.

He lashed out after James and some of his fellow players refused to take the court for playoff games back in August 2020, following the shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha.

Trump argued at the time that the public didn’t want to be confronted with politics when watching sports.

“I think what they’re doing to the NBA in particular is gonna destroy basketball,” he told reporters.

Almost a year on, basketball is still going strong whilst Trump himself is out of power.

Also, we’re pretty sure that James wouldn’t agree to be on any team coached by the former president...
