He'd just correctly predicted seven drawn games of football, including the goalless encounter between Morton and St Mirren in the Scottish Championship.
But one unlucky football fan has Rafa Benitez and £300m worth of attacking talent to blame for missing out on €14,000 (£10,200).
Images of a betting slip showing a €1.50 accumulator placed with Paddy Power spread on social media on Sunday night, hours before 32 times Spanish champions and 10 times European champions Real Madrid took on newly-promoted Sporting Gijon.
The punter only needed a Madrid win in order for his bet to pay off.
Alas, with new manager Rafa Benitez so far having failed to secure a new centre-forward, Madrid started the game without a recognised striker and the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale and James Rodriguez failed to break down a determined Gijon defence, with the game ending 0-0.
To top things off, one bookie even claimed it offered the punter €11,200 for the slip before the game kicked off.
