The Premier League's 10 best value signings of the transfer window

1 André Ayew (Marseilles to Swansea, free)

The signing of the season so far, Ayew was a free transfer from Marseilles and has been shredding opponents since he scored on his debut at Stamford Bridge.

2. Oriol Romeu (Chelsea to Southampton, £4m)

With Morgan Schneiderlin gone, Saints have revived the career of this promising Spaniard, who has already provided presence in defensive midfield.

3. James Milner (Manchester City to Liverpool, free)

Milner has brought experience and versatility to Brendan Rodgers' side, performing important roles in a team often lacking in solidity and structure.

4. Matteo Darmian (Torino to Manchester United, £12m)

United struggled at right-back last year but Darmian has already shown the consistency and speed that have made him Italy's first-choice in recent years.

5. James McClean (Wigan to West Bromwich, £1.5m)

After a controversial summer, McClean has already impressed at the Hawthorns, causing problems for Manchester City and Chelsea with his direct, physical style.

6. Micah Richards (Fiorentina to Aston Villa, free)

A free agent after leaving Manchester City, Richards has only just turned 27 but has been trusted by Tim Sherwood to be the centre-back and captain of his emerging team.

7. Bakary Sako (Wolves to Crystal Palace, free)

Wilfried Zaha and Yannick Bolasie are not the only wingers at Palace: Sako has performed on their level, scoring at Stamford Bridge last Saturday.

8. Valon Behrami (Hamburg to Watford, £2.5m)

Watford need experience and Behrami brings plenty of that to Vicarage Road, and has already been a solid presence in centre-midfield of their growing side.

9. Dimitri Payet (Marseilles to West Ham, £10.7m)

Payet was not cheap but he was still good value, having already shown himself to be a very dangerous attacking player, whether out wide or in the hole.

10. Gerard Deulofeu (Barcelona to Everton, £4m)

The Barcelona winger is a special player, as he proved in his first spell at Goodison, and if he gets fit then he can terrorise left-backs again this season.
