Sarcasm isn't so much humour you enjoy when it lands, but when it swooshes above the heads of your audience.
Often it's more of a compulsion than a comedic routine, and you have to warn people when you're actually being serious.
The Greek root for sarcasm comes from 'sarkazein', which literally means to strip off the flesh, which is fitting considering how brutal sarcasm can be.
Here are all the wonderful types of sarcasm in which you can indulge, delivered by the most dead pan from the annals of time.
Puns
A linguistics professor was lecturing to his class one day. 'In English,' he said, 'a double negative forms a positive. In some languages though, such as Russian, a double negative is still a negative.
However,' he pointed out, 'there is no language wherein a double positive can form a negative.'
A voice from the back of the room piped up, 'Yeah, right.'
