Man claims boss is changing clock-in times by 15 minutes a day to get him to work for free

A worker has taken to Reddit to vent about how his boss has apparently been messing with his clock-in times, leading to him missing out on wages.

Posting to the Anti Work subreddit, the Redditor claims the boss pushes forward his clock-in time by 10 to 15 minutes a day, meaning he works over an hour for free each week.

He explained that while training for the job, they told him to log in a little early to fire up his devices and software before his shift begins, so he did.

However, despite clocking in each morning at 6:45 am to set up his computer programs, he noticed his boss would push his clock-in time to 7.

He said he then began clocking in at 7, because he didn’t want to work for free. In response, his boss changed his clock-in time to 7:10.

Frazzled, he asked Reddit for advice. And Reddit delivered.

The top comment, with 6,000 upvotes reads: “Make sure you have the receipts. This is wage theft.”

Another suggested he keep clocking in at 6:45 and document everything for a few weeks. “Let them dig their own grave,” they wrote.

Others suggested he speak to a lawyer and report it to the Department of Labor.

In an update, the Redditor said he reached out to a labour law firm to see what his options were.

Thankfully, four pay periods worth of clock-ins have been adjusted since he escalated the issue.
