Cat becomes viral sensation after by sitting on a train roof and delaying it for hours

Cat lovers have reacted with glee after a pesky feline delayed a train journey from London Euston to Manchester on Tuesday evening.

The animal was spotted on top of an Avanti West Coast train at 8:30pm, while it was waiting to leave the platform at 9pm for its 125mph service.

In addition to the train travelling at high speeds had it left the platform, the mog was positioned close to 25,000 volt overhead lines.

The stubborn cat took two and a half hours to come down, with passengers on the service quickly transferred to another train “with only a slight delay” while staff coaxed the feline back to solid ground.

It later disembarked from the train after a was placed beside the carriages, offering a makeshift platform off the roof.

In true cat style, station staff reported that the cat was seen “swaggering off” after the whole ordeal.

Twitter users were quick to share the love for our feline friends and their rebellious nature:

Others suggested different methods to bring the cat down – from Zoom calls to trusty cardboard boxes:

Then, of course, came the puns:

Commenting on the incident, Joe Hendry, Network Rail’s station manager for Euston said: “We often have to deal with birds inside the station but in all my time here this is the first train surfing cat!

“Thankfully curiosity didn’t kill this cat and we’re glad it avoided using up one of its nine lives thanks to the swift action of the station team and Avanti West Coast staff who organised for passengers to get onto a different train for the rescue to take place.”

It remains unknown how the cat ended up on top of the train in the first place.
