Dad grades typo-filled council letter about his son missing school

A dad snuck his son out of school to go on holiday - but the disciplinary letter he received as a result might have convinced him he made the right decision.

Devon County Council sent Daniel Moor telling him was "guitly [sic]" for failing to send his child regularly to "hte [sic] school", so he would have to pay a fine by "debit/cred [sic] card". See the problem?

Daniel certainly did, picking up the traditional red pen to grade the atrociously spelled letter. In a viral Facebook post, he wrote:

I’m not going to pretend I’m a Spelling guru or a typing expert.

But I’m also not the Head of Education in Devon.

This woman’s in charge of the future generations education, our children’s education and she’s rubber stamping this tripe!

I’m going to pay the fine, no questions asked but I shall also be sending her letter back marked & graded.

Maybe I’ll throw a little holiday snap in aswell!

He told DevonLivethat he had taken his five-year-old son Charlie out of Bassetts Farm Primary School for five days so his family-of-four could holiday in Majorca:

I was fully aware of the risks involved but thought it was well worth it for the experience of the holiday and we don't regret it one bit.

I've said that I'll pay the £60 fine but I just wanted to make sure people could see how sloppy the letter was.

Devon County Council has blamed the spelling errors on a new IT printing system, telling indy100:

A glitch in our mail-merge system meant a standard template letter had to be re-keyed back into the system.

This version clearly contained a number of mistakes which were unfortunately not picked up before the letter was despatched.

It is an embarrassing error and we have since apologised to the recipients. Steps have also been taken to ensure it won't be repeated.
