Donald Trump has hit out at Amazon over its business practises.
In a scathing tweet, the US president says the retail giant pays “little or no taxes” to the state and local governments, and accuses it of using the country’s “Postal System as their Delivery Boy". With the unnecessary capital letters and everything.
People online have zeroed in on one line of his tweet – namely, the bit about Amazon using the postal system to, you know, deliver stuff.
Isn’t that sort of the whole point of a postal delivery service?
It even says so in its mission statement:
The Postal Service mission is to provide a reliable, efficient, trusted and affordable universal delivery service that connects people and helps businesses grow.
Trump implies Amazon is exploiting the USPS by using it to deliver goods, making the US suffer “tremendous loss”.
A former Postmaster General, Jack Potter told the Wall Street Journal that actually, “‘It’s well justified that they deliver those packages, and they make money on it", and it’s “actually the solution right now”.
That’s awkward.
As with all things Twitter and Trump, the internet swooped in to correct him.
Really, Mr President.
