Vice President Kamala Harris appeared to slip into a French accent during a speech to scientists at a COVID lab in Paris. Inevitably, the linguistic shift didn’t go unnoticed and garnered much attention – and mockery – on social media.
While speaking at the Institut Pasteur science lab, where Americans and Europeans are tackling Covid-19, Harris said:
“In government, we campaign with ‘The Plan.’ Uppercase T, uppercase P, ‘The Plan’,”
“And then the environment is such we’re expected to defend ‘The Plan’ even when the first time we roll it out there may be some glitches and it’s time to re-evaluate and then do it again.”

Donald Trump’s Secretary of State, Mike Pompeo, criticised Harris for “humiliating the United States.”
“The clip from Vice President Harris is more than embarrassing on the world stage,” he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity on Wednesday.
“Our adversaries watch that and see weakness. They see people who aren’t serious, they see people who aren’t determined - precisely the opposite of what we did for four years.”
“Holy sh*t I just watched this and almost spit out my coffee,” one Twitter user wrote, while another added, “OMG! I am so embarrassed! God help the USA!”
Abigail Marone, press secretary for Sen. Josh Hawley, tweeted, “Is she using a FRENCH ACCENT?! I love this episode of Veep.”
TV commentator Joe Concha added, “There really are no words anymore… #AuRevoir”.
“I thought we canceled pepe lepew,” Washington Examiner commentator Becket Adams said, referring to the French animated skunk from Warner Bros’ Looney Tunes.
