Elisabeth Anderson-Sierra has done something pretty spectacular for premature babies and gays fathers who want to feed their new born babies with nutritious breast milk.
She spends a jaw dropping 10 hours a day pumping almost two gallons of milk... For perspective: that’s ten times the amount the average woman generally pumps.
This is because Anderson-Sierra has hyperlactation syndrome, which is pretty much what it sounds like. She produces much more milk than what’s considered a normal amount. But she puts it to great use.
Anderson-Sierra has donated an amazing 5,000 pints of her breast milk to help feed premature babies, and to help gay dads feed their babies.
Anderson-Sierra also finds time in-between pumping five times a day to feed her own six-month-old daughter Sophia.
The 29-year-old packages and sterilises the milk before freezing it in one of the four huge freezers in the home she shares with her two daughters and husband.
She compares it to a full-time job - which it very much sounds like - and admits she hasn’t had a day off in more than two years.
Some of the milk goes to a milk bank, and some she donates locally - a few mothers even drop by to collect it.
Anderson-Sierra has also helped feed babies whose mothers have had their breast removed due to breast cancer, or can’t feed due to being on medication.
What a hero.
