It really doesn’t matter how often we see them, images from space never cease to amaze us.
Now a time-lapse graphic, based on images captured from the solar system, shows us what two years of photosynthesis above the United States looks like.
Photosynthesis is the process of plants receiving energy from the sun and using it to grow. The satellite is measuring Solar-Induced chlorophyll Fluorescence (SIF), which is a fluorescence signal from chlorophyll that's emitted during the photosynthesis process.
Over the space of two years, as the seasons change back and forth, we see greenery increase and decrease across the US.
It’s fascinating to see America’s greenest areas, plus the sheer scale of the transformation in real-time.
