The results are in – diamonds have lost their space in the top spot for most sought after engagement ring gemstone.

At least, that’s according to most popular Pinterest searches.

The most searched for engagement ring on the website is actually made of an incredibly rare stone called moissanite.

Moissanite rings have become the most popular type of ring, according to The Sun.

What makes moissanite so special?

The stone was first discovered in a meteor crate by french scientist Henri Moissan in 1893.

This gemstone is so rare that it is created in a lab, making it completely eco-friendly.

Moissanite has often been referred to as an affordable alternative to a diamond: it looks like a diamond, is strong and even sparkles somewhat like a diamond (though moissanite’s sparkle captures a wider spectrum of colour).
