Women! Now you can microwave away your unsightly armpit hair

It may be the 21st century but we all know women are still encouraged to zap armpit fuzz away with lasers, razors, hair removal cream, waxes and epilators.

All this despite the fact that the generally accepted evolutionary theory is that armpit and pubic hair are important in wafting pheromones over to potential mates, and hair is thought to be a natural solution for chafing on sensitive parts of the body.

But if the prospect of underarm tresses still causes distress, now, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, we can also microwave it off:

The new procedure has just been given the green light by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA). According to the company that is piloting the idea, MiraDry, the procedure is carried out with local anaesthesia and clients are given ice packs for a comfortable recovery.

The process works on all skin and hair colours, unlike lasers, which only pick up dark coloured hair.

While currently the technology is only cleared for armpits, other treatments are in development, so you'll probably be able to nuke the hair on other body parts soon too.

What a time to be alive.
