Working 9 to 5 is no way to make a livin', whatever Dolly Parton says.
Two thirds of Brits would prefer an earlier start and an earlier finish, according to a YouGov poll.
Here are the results in full (click here if they don't appear):
Working from 8am to 4pm was far more popular than any other option with 25 per cent of workers choosing it, while only 14 per cent of respondents wanted to stick with the traditional 9am to 5pm shift.
However, younger people and Londoners were more likely to want a late start.
19 per cent of 18 to 24 year olds said they would like to start work after 9am compared to just 9 percent of people aged 54 to 65.
Likewise, 27 per cent of Londoners would prefer to start their day after 9am with only 12 per cent of the rest of the south and 13 per cent of the north agreeing.
The report said:
This could be down to a combination of London’s younger population (which, as shown above, is more likely to prefer a late start) or the overcrowding on much of the London transport system during rush hour.
