A pair of black delivery drivers claim they were fired by FedEx for posting a video to social media showing a customer racially abusing them.

According to the account posted by a driver identified as ‘Antonio’ on Twitter, he and delivery partner Felinzay were making deliveries in Georgia when the incident happened.

The two had pulled up to a house to deliver a package but as they were leaving, the white owner ran out “cursing and threatening” them.

Antonio said they apologised but the man said he would “whoop [their] black asses”.

The irate customer then instructed his wife to call the police.

Antonio and Felinzay made to leave but allegedly the customer then yelled an expletive at them and they began recording the encounter.

Video shows Felinzay remonstrating with the man, saying “You didn’t have to come out there cussing me like that, like I’m some child.

"I ain’t no little boy”.

After Antonio stopped recording, police officers arrived and asked what was going on.

When questioned about the incident, the white customer reportedly then told the officers that the pair ““look like they would’ve [broken] into my house while my wife [was] there”.

Antonio initially posted the video on social when the encounter happened, but then re-uploaded the footage on Wednesday, stating that FedEx had fired both him and his partner and told him to take the clip down.

“FedEx called and told me to take down this video and fired both of us today,” he wrote. “I’m reposting this video because people like him, doesn’t matter white or any race, should never disrespect essential workers putting their lives in jeopardy especially with this Covid-19”.

#BoycottFedEx began trending after Antonio’s update, with social media users urging others not to use the service after learning of the pair’s treatment.

Although FedEx initially confirmed that the men had been fired by an independent service provider, FedEx Ground, the company later retracted their statement and said that Antonio and Felinzay had been rehired.

In a tweet, FedEx said:

We are aware of the incident in GA that led to the release of two drivers employed by a service provider. We're offering employment while investigating to ensure an appropriate outcome. We take seriously allegations of discrimination, retaliation, or improper employment actions.

In the meantime, a GoFundMe has been started to cover income lost by the workers, with the current total raised standing at $48,965.
