The real difference between British and American fast food, according to Americans

American fast food chains have spread around the world.

McDonalds, Burger King, Subway, KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino's, to name but a few.

While they often sell the same menu in the UK, sometimes the food can be very different.

Channel 4's Tricks of the Restaurant Trade asked American students studying in the UK to discuss the differences between UK and American versions of the same food, over a few meals.

They found a few key differences:

McDonald's:

Big Macs are much smaller in the UK and the chips are less crunchy - they also contain far fewer ingredients.

They complained the UK chips were "like flimsy potatoes" and that they shouldn't "bend like this".

However UK chips contain just potatoes, salt, and two types of oil, while the US version has more than a dozen ingredients.

KFC:

KFC doesn't sell chips in the US. Mind blown.

They also don't sell riceboxes.

The students said that the UK chicken did taste the same as in the US, however the US version comes with mashed potato and gravy as well as "biscuits" (read a dumpling or scone).

Domino's:

In the UK, the pizzas are made without GM ingredients, whereas in the US the chain says they are "likely to be present".

The students can't taste the difference, though.
